Ayla and Ben Schmidt

Today in the #Amplifriday spotlight, we have a nomination from a brother (Ben) for his sister (Ayla) who is by all accounts, Wonder Woman. With this weekend’s Run for the Cure fundraiser for breast cancer research, we’re so pleased to shine the spotlight on this cause and Ayla!

Ben writes: “My sister is a woman in mining. From her first job working for a company driving small rock trucks, it became apparent that she was the best operator on the crew. When she left that company, Highland Valley Copper hired her as fast as they could. During her time as a haul truck driver, Ayla gained the respect of almost everyone she worked with. She made her way to shovel operator and her skill at this position was nearly flawless. She became a trainer shortly before her diagnosis and I know the mine would have benefitted with her knowledge.

Ayla is fiercely independent and during her chemo and radiation treatments, she asked us to give her space. I think this is why I signed up for Run for the Cure. I was there to help her, but she didn't need it. I needed something to do to show her how much she means to me. I also needed something to calm my nerves! The Canadian Cancer Society’s CIBC Run for the Cure was the thing I needed to do.

Now that Ayla is recovering from the cancer and the treatments, I still want to be involved in Run for the Cure. It is a great cause, and I get to work with amazing people and wonderful businesses that look after people in the community.”

Ayla, your tenacity and quiet strength and determination are amplifiable and we are cheering you on as you take this journey in your health to healing. Ben, your desire to help in the best way you can to support your sister is also amplifiable. Your parents did well raising such amazing humans!

Ayla and Ben – you are remarkable people of impact. As is our team at Amplify Consulting Inc.’s commitment, we will donate $100 to a charity of your choice to further amplify both your remarkable impact and the charity’s.

Last week, we had the privilege of amplifying the sibling duo, Ben and Ayla Schimdt’s incredible impact. As part of AmpliFriday, we donate $100 to a charity of choice for our amplified individuals, and Ben chose the  Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure.

Ben shares, “Ayla has battled breast cancer and has been recovering for the last 18 months. Our choice for our charity is Run for the Cure."

He adds, I am the Director of Community and Corporate Engagement, and I became involved after my sister's diagnosis. Breast cancer will affect 1 in 8 women, and the support provided by the Canadian Cancer Society is world-class.”

The CIBC Run for the Cure unites families, friends, and supporters to celebrate their loved ones and create a significant impact for all Canadians affected by breast cancer.

The run inspires and raises crucial funds for the Canadian Cancer Society, Canada’s leading breast cancer research funder.  Ben adds, “Kamloops has really come through for this event, and we wouldn't be able to do it without the support of our many sponsors. My committee has been amazing, and this event would not happen without all their time and effort.”

Congratulations again, Ben and Ayla, on being amplified; we are happy to make a $100 donation to support the Run for Care in your honour.
