Go Wolfpack! Today’s Amplifriday spotlight isn’t shining on a Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack athlete, rather on the Athletics and Recreation Director, a person who demonstrates leadership in a quest for excellence, and all the while doing so, setting an example for the hundreds of young people attending TRU for their post secondary studies. That person is Curt Atkinson, nominated by colleague Pina Russo.
Pina writes: “Since taking the Director Position at TRU, Curt has had a very positive impact on Athletics and Recreation, TRU, and our community. He led TRU through to a national championship and words cannot explain his professionalism and commitment to his team in doing so. He pitches in – for example, during the championships, he was busy filling gas heaters to ensure our guests were kept warm. He sits on many sports boards in our community and contributes to local hockey programs. His leadership, professionalism, and mentorship are remarkable. Although he normally chooses to be behind the scenes, he puts TRU and Kamloops on the map!”
This kind of track record for leadership has been evident throughout Curt’s career. Born in Kamloops, Curt grew up in Nelson and moved around through his time playing junior hockey as a goalie and working with the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes in Promotions and Fan Development. When first announced as the new Director at a press conference in 2018, Curt is quoted as saying, “I want to determine the needs of the campus, and continue to offer meaningful opportunities that yield strong physical, emotional, and social benefits for as many people as possible.” This is all about remarkable impact, and Curt is certainly achieving that goal.
Curt – you are a remarkable person of impact! As is our team at Amplify Consulting Inc.’s commitment, we will donate $100 to a charity of your choice to further amplify both your remarkable impact and the charity’s.

We were thrilled about amplifying the remarkable impact of Curt Atkinson last week. As a part of AmpliFriday, we donate $100 to a charity of choice for our amplified individual, and Curt has chosen Kidsport Kamloops.
For Curt, it is simple,
"Every child should have the opportunity to experience the benefits of sport, and KidSport leads the way in providing opportunities. I greatly respect the work KidSport does to get kids into the game and to help remove financial barriers to participation."
KidSport Kamloops, a local chapter of the not-for-profit KidSport Canada, believes that sport and physical activity provide invaluable opportunities for kids to learn teamwork, fundamental movement skills and social skills while having fun, noting that these activities often result in healthier lifestyles and increased self-confidence. Funds raised locally are spent locally and distributed as grants.
Congratulations again, Curt, on being amplified; we are proud to support Kidsport Kamloops by making a $100 donation in your honour.
