Today’s AmpliFriday honours and recognizes an individual who is not only accomplished in the forestry sector but is a bright light on the journey of reconciliation through education and forestry, and that’s Hayden Leo.
Hayden is a Forestry Technician from the Lil’wat Nation and has been working on some major forestry initiatives on the traditional territory of his Nation. From the rehabilitation of the Q̓welq̓welústen / Mount Meager landslide to the better protection of his community through wildfire risk reduction projects, Hayden is doing this meaningful work with a commitment to building up the knowledge and involvement of others. He was recently recognized as one of the Top 20 Foresters under 40 by the Canadian Forest Industries Magazine, a huge honour on the national stage for such a humble, small community guy!
Regarding Hayden, his boss, general manager Klay Tindall, shared,
The value that Hayden brings is hard work. He is driven to improve himself and genuinely cares about people and his community. He is very community-focused, which is significant because he’s not pursuing education solely for himself but to serve the entire community. Hayden also has an infectious positive attitude, so even when facing challenges, he tackles them with a smile. Without a doubt, he is deserving of this award, and we are so proud of him.
Hayden proves that our knowledge and expertise are important, but it is how we treat others that makes a significant impact, thus we’re so proud to have him shine bright in the AmpliFriday spotlight!
Hayden – you are a remarkable person of impact! As is our team at Amplify Consulting Inc.’s commitment, we will donate $100 to a charity of your choice to further amplify both your remarkable impact and the charity’s.
Last week, we had the privilege of amplifying Hayden Leo’s incredible impact. As part of AmpliFriday, we donate $100 to a charity of choice for our amplified individuals, and Hayden chose First Assist. Hayden explains,
I helped the First Nation Snowboard team for a couple of seasons and thought all youth should be able to do this. I also have a niece and nephews who play soccer competitively, and I want them to do awesome. Seeing more Indigenous youth playing more and experiencing new things is what I enjoyed most growing up, even though I wasn't that good at most sports.
First Assist is an Indigenous-run charity that advances educational achievement in Indigenous communities through sport. Working jointly with local schools and teachers to implement its program, First Assist aims to develop successful students using sports as a motivational tool to promote attendance, increase classroom engagement and encourage healthy habits for life. Youth actively engaged in sports improve their decision-making, learn self-discipline and how to set and achieve goals, skills that are transferable to the classroom.
Congratulations again, Hayden, on being amplified; we are happy to make a $100 donation to support First Assist in your honour.
