Tara Ettinger

Having a vision is one thing. Making a vision reality is quite another. You’ll be inspired by today’s nominated person in the #Amplifriday spotlight, and that’s the remarkable Tara Ettinger, Executive Director of the Big Bear Child & Youth Advocacy Centre.

Leann Kopytko sent in this lovely nomination for Tara, writing:

“Tara advocated for and created the Big Bear Advocacy Centre in Kamloops, B.C.
Big Bear offers advocate services and supports for children, youth and families; they provide information and support during investigations of child abuse and neglect within the Criminal Justice System. Big Bear helps to coordinate the response to child abuse through a multi-disciplinary team approach. This means bringing all the involved professionals together to collaborate so that gaps in services are mitigated and children and youth have less chance of ‘falling through the cracks’. Big Bear is an exemplary service in Kamloops that has been created with incredible thoughtfulness, compassion, and safety in mind. I am so proud of Tara for seeing this vision to fruition!”

Tara, in a word, is a force! She holds a Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Education in Counselling Psychology, and is currently a PhD candidate, having received the National SSHRC Doctoral Award. As a counselling therapist for over 20 years, Tara has spent many years working with children, youth, and families in trauma. Her training by Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc in Aboriginal Group Conferencing and Restorative Justice led to facilitating Healing Circles and supporting Residential School Survivors. Tara chaired and coordinated a Network to decrease youth violence and gang activity as part of a BC Provincial strategy.

Tara – you are a remarkable person of impact! As is our team at Amplify Consulting Inc.’s commitment, we will donate $100 to a charity of your choice to further amplify both your remarkable impact and the charity’s.

We were pleased to amplify the remarkable impact of Tara Ettinger last week. As a part of AmpliFriday, we donate $100 to a charity of choice for our amplified individual, and Tara chose Kidsport Kamloops, explaining,

"In being a part of some children and youth's healing journey, I've recognized how every journey is unique. For some children and youth, being involved in a group or team activity has been exactly what they needed; however, they aren't always affordable. Thank you KidSport, for helping to remove some of the financial barriers that may prohibit a child from playing a sport!"

Kidsport's narrative is rooted in the potential of kids and the power of sports to transform their lives. Since 1993, this national not-for-profit organization has helped nearly 1 million kids experience the joy of sport, and in return, sport has created all kinds of positive change for Canadians.

Congratulations again, Tara, on being amplified; we are excited to support the Kamloops chapter of Kidsport by making a $100 donation in your honour.
