Toni Boer

One of the joys of Amplifriday is amplifying the remarkable impact of people who you newly meet who are making significant and positive change in their communities. A few months ago, I was absolutely honoured to listen to Toni Boer speak at a Marketplace Leaders event. As I learned, one year earlier if you told Toni she would be speaking to leaders, she would have thought you were quite incorrect!

Toni is Cree/Metis from the Beaver Lake Nation in Alberta. She worked in the Prince George school district as an Indigenous Education worker for 15 years. After returning to school when she was 36, she earned her bachelor’s degree in both Indigenous Studies and Education. Toni has been teaching at Westside Academy for the past 5 years where she walks alongside fellow staff to grow in their understanding of reconciliation and the importance of implementing meaningful Indigenous practices in the classroom.

Toni’s talk about reconciliation was powerful. What was most powerful though was her approach of leading through vulnerability. As she shared, her desire to stand up and speak in public is not in her comfort zone, in fact well outside of it. But she was challenged to speak up and out, and her impact for raising awareness for the cultures and practices of Indigenous peoples to build understanding and acknowledgement of their importance has been remarkable. She leads with, and through, vulnerability, and by doing so, allows those she speaks with to themselves become more true to who they are and all they have yet to learn.

She leads with, and through, vulnerability.

Toni – you are a remarkable person of impact. As is our team at Amplify Consulting Inc.’s commitment, we will donate $100 to a charity of your choice to further amplify both your remarkable impact and the charity’s.

Last week, we had the privilege of amplifying the incredible impact of Toni Boer. As a part of AmpliFriday, we donate $100 to a charity of choice for our amplified individuals, and Toni selected Nish and Kristin Kandangama.

“I want my donation to go to Nish and Kristin because I believe their work in Sri Lanka directly impacts their community by emphasizing the importance of family and belonging, all the things Jesus loves. They have worked tirelessly for years creating a safe place for children to come, eat, learn and know about Jesus through their centre.”

Nishanthe and Kristin, driven by their faith, endeavour to transform Kandy, Sri Lanka. Working with their team, they offer classes in art, English, math, Sinhala (the local language), computer, and volleyball and organize children’s and youth camps. Over eighty children, ranging in age from preschool to grade 12, attend their centre daily.

I believe their work directly impacts their community.

Congratulations again, Toni, on being amplified; we are happy to make a $100 donation to Nish and Kristin Kandangama in your honour.
